I use a 12" 3/8 extension. Hammer on the male end, use the fatter femak\le end against the cup.
Nice idea! I have a broke one in my tool box. Broke off the male end. Ouch!

Used my broke extension and a bit more force. They finally popped out. Now for cleaning. To keep the paint out do y'all cover the holes with tape?

Its so easy to tape, no downside.
True and if it is nearly as hard to put back together I don't want to cut corners. Thanks for everyone's advice. It truely helps to have this forum with so many knowledgeable people!

anywhere ya tape, ya get an edge. An edge that in time can lift,or be seen. ya just dont gob the paint in there. I have refinished about 25 bikes, and never masked one. just saying....
The factory didnt mask it, did they?

Heat won't work that way. The cups will come out. Find someone to help and a bigger hammer.

I never mask the BB shell just make sure you clean any old paint before you start to paint! Only mask it if you plan to spray it for a 30 minute period!!!
