Not much progress: ordered a new crankset (the one on hand didn't fit), calculated the correct spoke length and checked that I have them in my parts bin.
So wheel building will be next on the list.

Now it needs to be trued. I'll leave that to a pro....

This afternoon I brought the wheel to my trusted bicycle shop for truing. Should be ready for pickup by monday evening after work.
Meanwhile I got news that the new crankset I ordered should arrive tomorrow.

Tonight I tried to get rid of the bottom bracket, but one of the bearing cups puts up a fight, so I have to think of more drastic measures...

And for putting in the new ... bottom bracket I just fabbed my own tool from scrap of plywood (said I'm a woodworm):

You are doing some cool stuff!
The tool you made for installing the bottom bracket is great!

Luke.
Thanks. I like to do some McGyverism sometimes ;)

Getting closer to a first ride. Still waiting for the trued rear wheel. But freshly sourced bottom bracket is in and cranks are mounted.

Parts box is almost empty...

Next on the list: lights...

Today I got the rear wheel back from the shop, bought some fresh inner tubes and was finally able to mount proper wheels to the lowrider. One of the chains in the parts box was a fit, so I have a roller now!
At the moment it's still a singlespeed but I was able to ride it once around the house in between two rain showers. It's fairly uncomfortable and the steering needs some practice, but hey, it's meant for fun and not as daily rider...

The to do list says:
-chain tensioners
-lights
-shifter cable
-grips
-...
-...
-...
-fine tuning

Gotta have fun man!
