I found this locally through Craigslist and the guy told me it's a '46 Schwinn but according to a Schwinn serial number site it's actually a '51. Does anyone know if these were made in Chicago? It has skip tooth drivetrain so I was thinking it'd be older than '51. Any help is appreciated.

It's really rusty but there's no pitting so that's good!

This will be my winter project!

Cool bike and yes they were made in chicago. Skip tooth chains don't help much with dating Schwinns. There are pre war bikes that don't have them and post war bikes that do.

When you pull the crank, they may be a date stamp on it verifying that it's 51. Nice bike to start with.
