Hey I just bought this on ebay from Hungary but I have no idea what it came on originally or when it's from. The title said "70's soviet russian glass and metal Russian bicycle headlight" but I have a feeling the seller didn't know anything about it. No description was given.

That is a good example of soviet design. I can prove that it is made in USSR. The stamp says ОЗАТЭ (OZATE) what is decrypted as Орджоникидзевский Завод Автотракторного Электрооборудования (Ordzhonikidzevskiy Zavod Avtotraktornogo Elektooborudovaniya) and means Ordzhonikidze (modern name of that city is Vladikavkaz) Auto-tractor Electro-equipment Factory. Here are some pictures from that factory.
The lamp is roughly dated 1960s and was commonly used on soviet bicycles and mopeds in different modifications. Here you can buy similar one in Russia for 1500 roubles excluding shipping. More examples. That is roughly 25 bucks.
Congratulations, comrade. That would be a good detail for a USSR themed bike. Or to put it on your Felt Propaganda.

I dig the style, had to pick it up. The lamp was cheap, but the shipping...

Nice. Well I guess the seller did know what he had. I got lucky with mine and got it from ebay from a seller in Hungary. I was the only bidder @ 4 bucks + 3 for shipping. I guess stuff is cheap in Hungary!

Thanks for the help lots of good info here.

I'm not going for a USSR theme exactly but I think I'm going to paint it to match my bike and try to modify the light to be battery powered. Not exactly sure what I'm gonna do there yet.

The French make a simular style. Got to love the classic lines.
