I was stationed in Fairbanks when I was in the Army. I did alot of trail riding with some guys from my unit. We all armed ourselves with pepper spray and one guy carried a handgun. Extreme mountain biking. Bear, moose, caribou, angry miners and trappers. I heard that bikers had been shot at by miners who thought their stakes were being invaded. Its a great place but it is crazy as heck!

I was at Ft. Wainright for about a month in the winter for artic training. We jumped in, I was w/ the 82nd ABN. Didnt see any bikes, heck we didnt even have vehicles. We just pulled our stuff around on sleds while harnessed like sleddogs,lol. This was around 77

I pulled those sleds around too. That sucked! I was there from 1993-96. We only rode in the 4 months of warm weather. Skiing was the thing for the other 8 months.
