I have an old 5o's/6o's tandem Mead Ranger that I want to turn into a 69er. I can put a 29er on the original front fork if I trim this little eyelet protruding from the front and aft side of the top of the fork. My question is what are these eyelets originally used for, and will it affect the structural integrety of this fork if I cut them flush?

Re: fork question

they are brake mounts for the old side pull style brakes, i dont think grinding it off would hurt the fork but it is a cast fork so be careful, they made forks like it without them.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't cut the original eyelets off yet; but I did install the 29er tire. I may try to find one of the old original style forks without these eyelets, or I have been looking at a 1" threaded triple tree on ebay

Almost ready for that engine kit 8)
Any advice on either the fork or engine kits is welcome. I'm thinking 66cc 2 cycle...
