I have a 63 Schwinn that I am trying to fix up and need help identifying the model. It has no chain guard but only one fender with white stripes down each side. I believe it was originally red and has been repainted blue then red again.

was told that the fork and chainring are from another bike. Serial # K363807 10/25/63 on dropout. I have it all taken apart now.

1963 dated Cantilever frame, painted fenders, no tank tabs, flamboyant red color:

Would be a Tiger, Typhoon, American, or possibly a Hornet that had a full tank. (I forget which frame they used in 63)

This is the crank. Didn't know that it was called a dogleg but I knew it looked different than ones I have seen before.

I have one of those I pulled out of a 53.It wasn't the original crank to my bike.It had a skip tooth chain and a 47 date code Morrow hub.I think those dogleg cranks are from the 40s.Maybe someone with more Schwinn knowledge will speak up. you don't go to The Cabe it has a wealth of info on classic bikes.Nice folk also.

Look on the seat post tube, and see if you can make out any decals. A 63 Typhoon would only have a Schwinn Quality decal near the top, A Tiger has a checkerboard decal, as seen on my 63 Tiger below, an American has a stars & stripes theme. I think only the Typhoon and possibly the Standard American had painted fenders that year. -Adam

I don't remember seeing a decal on it before I took the paint off. Also they had a 20 tooth cog on the brake that they had made into a 10 tooth skiptooth. I've had the bike for over 15 years myself.
