1963 Schwinn Traveler Tune and Clean

A friend asked me to get her mother's bike up and running again. It's been in a garage since the 70's and the grease is hard like wax. There is some rust but nothing too bad.

The tires are roasted so they will be replaced. I'm just gonna do a simple breakdown and clean of all the components, grease it up and get as much rust off as possible. I like the front and rear lights. I think they still work, I need to get a closer look.

So, I was taking off the crank and saw some words etched in to the back of the chainring. These words were not visible when it was assembled

it says "SAMPLE 2-22-63"

How bizarre! Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
