So here's my second build ever, a ladies 1957 Rollfast, watcha see is how I picked 'er up.
Now, when I asked my wife what color she wanted she loved the original color combo. So, we will stay with that. In fact, I'm actually liking it myself. So as you can see, there are several pieces missing, but what I have I will keep original.
Taking the bike apart
After the immediate geeking out and initial calming down, I proceeded to take her part, I quite enjoy these moments.
So while I was at it, the chromed parts from the forks, seat stem and headset I removed as much rust as I could by using a sanding sponge with 60 grit then step to was using a 180 grit then finally using steel wool to bring out a handsome shine.
The one piece crank itself and truss rods were pretty rusty I tried using the same method, then tried using a polishing wheel, still no success so I ended up sandblasting these items as well as the frame and the front fender of a Wald fender set. I had also bought a chain guard from a fellow ratrod member here and sandblasted it as well.
Sandblasting
I had to straighten out the fenders also, it was full of pits and uneven so that took a little while also.
Thankfully the frame is straight with no problems.
So here we are at priming the frame, truss rods, small fork pieces along with the fork itself, the tank pieces and the fenders. So far I'm happy with the progress.
The next step will be to wet sand everything. Then tape the fenders and tanks and paint it the same color combo/scheme as before. I found a period correct 1957 Chevy "tropical turquoise" that matches wonderfully.
Shortly I will be looking into getting some wheels and tires, a chain and handle bar grips.
I purchased the seat, which I love, and handlebars along with the stem.
Quite an exciting feeling when everything is starting to come together...
