WOW!!! I can see that bender on the floor in left corner, can I ask is everything heated before bending or you just cold bending! Lovin the curve's on the box tube! ummmmm how many kg's on that press, got me thinkin now ha ha ha !
Also that leatherwork is gobsmakin beautiful, those lower boot things would be great for running around in the aussie bush, no snakes gonna bite through them!
Thanks man! Everything is rolled cold through it. It weighs close to 70 lbs fully assembled. I made those half gaiters for marching through heavy snow, but I know they're also used for protection from nasty critters. I would offer to make you a set, but shipping from Michigan to your neck of the woods would be astronomical
By itself, this Harbor Freight tubing roller is useless on anything bigger than 1" tubing. The two wing plates that I welded on are what makes it. I rarely use the center roller slots anymore because it requires so much pressure to bend the materials
FINALLY got my head tube stock tonight. It may or may not have been attached to another whole bike until an hour ago.
The plan is to insert this tube into a piece of square stock and weld the whole mess together. I'm using stuff I hardly ever use, namely a 1 1/8" Threadless steer tube. It's definitely not because that's a good selection of good looking handlebar risers (not). I did find a really good deal on sealed bearings, which are for this size steer tube. I don't know if anyone noticed, but the head tube angle on my jig is almost at a 45° angle, which chews up normal bearings like crazy.

Check if there's a Tandy Leather near you. They often have classes and are quite helpful for beginners. A lot on my leather knowledge came from the University of YouTube

Who would have thought that new bmx gear would be compatible with a 70 year old skip tooth crank? I even have the adapter that converts the slightly oversized center hole to the correct BB spindle diameter. Too bad I'm having a new chain ring made, guess I'll adjust the file for the new parts I'm using
I'm going to split this spindle in half to widen it tonight. I'll weld it up at work where I can use a lathe to make sure it's perfectly straight and true

Couldn't find any square tubing that fit the 1 1/8 head tube, so I was cutting some angle iron to fit it when I had a thought. Why just slap a head badge sticker on when I can make it so much more unique? Sketched out a shape, then blasted it out with my torch. I foresee a huge amount of file work in my future

Well, things escalated. Was taking about my crank spindle plans with my co worker when he asked me why don't I just have a new custom piece made. So he's going to make me a new spindle out of some spare 4130 stock here at work
Laying down some FAT welds tonight.
Never mind the pea sized splatter, it'll all get sanded down in the end. Should be able to weld this head tube onto the frame sometime tomorrow
Like a submarine captain yells, GRIND! GRIND! GRIND! Just about finished with adding metal to this piece. I'm going to add a few facets around the bearing cups because it looks a little too boring as it sits

Busted out the big guns for this project. Kinda wish it was the actual grinder which spun up to 9,000 rpms, not a sander/polisher which maxes out at 3,000, but the variable speeds are definitely more handy overall
It still needs a bunch more sanding, but it's looking pretty good. I accidentally made a head tube shroud, lol. Glad I went this route instead of just leaving it as a giant square block
Going for a bike ride to get a few small things. I want to ride Gerty, but the seat springs are trying to turn me into a eunuch.
No bueno. So I'll take my other bike
Gerty is one of my faves! I'm going to build a similar bike someday I think. Looking forward to the current build, the fab is looking terrific!
