    Western Flyer build

This is a Western Flyer Silver Liner that I bought on Craigslist last Summer. The bike was pretty trashed when I got it. I painted it slate blue, pinstriped it, threw some new tires on, a different seat and matching grips and it's good to go! Really like how this turned out. Here's how it...

    a bit o' pinstriping

I'm working on a Western Flyer Silver Liner... here's the pinstriping that I did on the rear rack this evening. I think it turned out pretty well considering that I'm still learning to pinstripe... this is my fourth attempt. I'll post photos when the bike is complete.

    pre-war fender question

Hello! My neighbor just gave me a pre-war Cleveland Welding bike with no headbadge. The rear fender has holes that I assume are for a fender guard or lacing. Does anyone have experience with these fenders or advice on lacing them? Not sure if "lacing" is the correct term. Thanks!

    Western Flyer

I was planning on doing a space theme with this bike before this build off came up, so it gives me a good excuse to start on it. Here's a Western Flyer that I bought on Craigslist this past Summer: I may do a Star Trek theme... haven't decided but rest assured it will be sweeeet! Can't wait...

    cowgirls and rat rods

I was commissioned to make this shirt for my friend's sister for Christmas. It features bicycle tires on the front and a bicycle on the back. The bicycle on the back is based on a Schwinn Phantom. I hope she likes it!

    Schwinn Tornado ridiculous build

Finally warmed up a bit today and I was anxious to work on a bike so I threw this together. It's kind of ridiculous. I rode it down the street and it's fun to ride. I think I'll ride it to work tomorrow.

    Snow ride

My friends and I went on a snow ride Saturday night. We bundled up (the temperature was 20 degrees) and rode around the neighborhood. My girlfriend wiped out twice but managed to avoid injury... when you're wearing lots of layers it doesn't hurt when you fall. I'm hoping the next snow is a blizzard!

    Schwinn Tornado

Picked this one up this morning. The local bike project was selling lots of bikes. They had tons of bikes but nothing too spectacular and most of them were between $50- $100. I told them that I was looking for vintage bikes to fix up or customize and they showed me this Schwinn Tornado that was...

    awesome score!!!

I picked up four bikes yesterday and didn't pay a dime for them! A couple of weeks ago I found three 1980's era 10 speed bikes on the curb that were being given away for free so I picked them up thinking I would sell them on Craigslist. Then last week a friend of mine mentioned that her...

    speedometer question

Does anyone know how accurate a speedometer is, assuming the unit is in good working condition? I don't plan on breaking any land speed records but I'm curious as to how fast I avereage on my Schwinn Jaguar which I ride most often.

    The Circa 98' Screamo

Yeah, silly name for this bike but it makes me think of something emo/screamo kids would have ridden to a basement show in the late 90's. Anyway, got bored this afternoon and threw this together. I haven't had time to build any bikes lately and I was getting anxious to play with some of the...

    curbside find

Went to a friend's house last night and spotted four bikes on the curb across the street. I wasn't sure if these bikes were actually being thrown out so I knocked on the door of the house they were in front of and the owner told me she was cleaning out her garage and that the bikes were free...

How do I hammer out a bend?

Just bought a Western Flyer in pretty good shape except that part of the frame is bent up. The bend is near the rear of the bike close to the dropouts. I was thinking of just banging it back into shape with a hammer but I don't want to weaken it. Any advice?

    Western Flyer Craigslist find

Found on Craigslist today: $20 for the Western Flyer and $10 for the women's tank frame. Check out the star sprocket! Anyone know what the women's frame might be? I was thinking AMF because of the sprocket.

Montana Gold spray paint... anyone use it?

I found this paint at a local art supply shop. It's kind of expensive (about $9 a can) but it claims to not need a primer coat , has virtually no overspray and has the twice the coverage of most spray paint. Plus it comes in about 200 colors. Has anyone tried it? I'm planning to try it for my...

    tandem madness

I bought this tandem off of Craigslist for $50 last week. It was poorly spraypainted yellow, missing one seat and one pedal, the handlebars were wrapped in black tape and were caked with rust beneath and the rims were rusty. here it is as found: I took the bike apart and stripped the paint...

    Awesome tandem... another CL score

Found this on Craigslist for $50. The seller kept reminding me that this needs lots of work but I assured him that I was up to the task. This is my second tandem. Any idea what model it is? The seller thought it might be a Firestone or Western Flyer.

    Swiss Army Bike

I started with this old Murray 3 speed: My reference for this project is a Swiss Army Bicycle: I took the Murray apart and painted the frame green and the fenders & rack black. I recovered a really old seat with camo fabric. The bag was constructed using an old Italian Army jacket that I...

    North American Handmade Bicycle Show

Does anyone know about this event? http://www.handmadebicycleshow.com/nahbs2009/index.htm It's here in Indianapolis in early 2009... just wondering if anyone has been to the show before. From the vendor list it looks like it will mostly appeal to trust fund hippies and suburbanites with more...
