I pulled this JC Higgins truss rod bracket from a donor bike.

Old paint on chrome is usually a good thing.

After scraping most of the paint away, I followed with citrus striper.

All done after spending the night in vinegar and then scrubbing with a wire brush.

It didn't clean up as well as I had hoped for, but it will do. At least until I can run up on a better one.

Still spending all of my time on the Roadmaster.

Here's a pro tip for masking two-tone paint jobs:
Aluminum foil works great for covering frames. The foil conforms to the irregular shapes without the hassle of paper and tape.

I think he is sending me some original grips. Otherwise, yes I agree!

Brilliant idea with the foil! Will definitely be using that ’hack’
I wish that I could take credit for the idea, but I've seen it used in the street rod world. However, I don't recall ever seeing it applied to a bicycle.:)

It stays in place without any tape. But I do tape down the edges closest to the mask to keep any overspray from sneaking under. And a 40-sq. ft. roll was $1.25 at the Dollar Tree!
