This one is nearing the finish line. I scrapped my cyclocross idea, and now it's built up with 26" cruiser wheels and slick tires. It's more of a true rat now, with lots of crusty parts. I'm loving it...
Added a rack and a true speedo instead of the RPM gauge:
Very rusty wheels and a...
As she sits today:
I love the slack angles and the stable feel of this bike.
Straightening the derailleur hanger wasn't hard, but the threads were a little mangled. I did manage to thread the new derailleur on.
I cut the rubber grips off because I was impatient, and because I might add...
Re: SHOW ME YOUR AT-4s
Ok, so this didn't exactly take off so I'll turn it into a build thread. :D
I've had these AT-4s on my original mountain bike back in the early 90s, but they've just been sitting around for a long time and I didn't really know what to do with them. I knew they...
Haven't done much with this build except think about it and add this bar/stem combo:
I'm looking to do a cyclocross race in a few months, and I think this will be the bike I use for it. I'm probably going to swap out the one-piece crank for a three-piece setup just to shave off a little...
Thanks guys.
Hsean, I love the rust look too. Your bike is definitely a little older than mine, because it has the curved fender braces. Mine is at least a '46 or older, because it has a Bendix rear hub. I'm still thinking its a '50 or a '51.
Oh yeah, and the front wheel is from my mountain bike. You can probably tell it's not original by the quick-release skewer that's on the wrong side of the frame.
I've been watching this one on CL for about a year now. It was far enough away that I could talk myself out of it, so I never made the trip. But this weekend I was headed off for weekend at my buddy's camp and practically driving right by it, so it's mine.
I had brought the whitewall...
Re: First build - Big Boy BMX...now not so much
Thanks Texon.
I ended up putting the Schwinn frame back together with 26 x 1 3/8 wheels and selling it at a swap this spring. I'm using the tires on my Columbia Twosome now, which had been my original plan. I just got it together enough to ride...
Thanks Kenny. It was fun to crunch around in the snow on.
The speedo is out for this build. I'm using it here instead:

Thanks Luke, I appreciate the kind words.
Just spent a little more time with it, checking out the fenders. My memories of them were a little off; all of the red was gone, so it was just blue and some metal showing through. I still think it looks cool with the blue on the decals. I think I'll...
Not sure what the next step is. I was planning to remove the freewheel and replace it either with a fixed cog (a la the Sheldon Brown conversion method) or a regular BMX freewheel and run it that way. I do have the rear derailleur, though, so it might make a cool 5-speed.
I'm planning to...
