This is gonna be fun!

The seat pedestal is also getting the rust treatment. I'm using the same technique as I'm using on the tank. I primed it with black primer and added the rust layer over the paint. The actual metal underneath is safe and sound under a protective layer of paint. I didn't want to actually rust the raw metal, plus I have some control over the final finish.

You can see some of the black primer on top of the seat post that I didn't bother to rust because it will be covered by the tank.

For comparison, this was it just a few weeks ago...

awesome BIKES....really love Old Glory... special to me as when I was drafted and sent to war you never forget the feeling when you see an American Flag after days of wandering whether you will ever have the chance to see it again....does that make sense?

I want to know how your doing the rust.
Looks great
It's actually very simple. I'm surprised that it hasn't been done here before now. It's an iron pigmented paint that is oxidized after it dries. If you can paint it, you can rust it. It's that easy. I've been wanting to try it for awhile, so making fiberglass rust was the perfect opportunity!

Yes that does make sense even though I've never been anywhere close to a war zone. I'm honored to have evoked such a feeling from a war vet! Thank you for your service!
WHAT HE SAID!! LOVING THIS BIKE!!
Thanks Jake. You always have my attention, so I'm pleased to get just a little of yours!:)

That is very cool and worked great!!! Did you have to add the pigment to the paint or did you find some paint that already had the iron pigment blended in?

I have been thinking you potentially had the build off winner ever since the pics with the tank mounted on May 12th. Ever since then you have done nothing but outstanding work on Drag King. I am sure there are other tricks up your sleeve, but that rusty tank is going to be the topper. Have fun in the winner's circle buddy!!!!:113::thumbsup::rockout::praise:
