I am starting to build a hub-less bicycle wheel :!: :!:
for now i lathe half the small wheels the rim will spin on (made out of old skateboard wheels) and i made a hole in the tire for the valve to be out the way on the rim..
It will be a driving/rear wheel , cause that's the real challenge

The main problem with a hubless wheel on a bicycle is the gear ratio , but i "invented/find" a new way to do things , so i will post progress , but i may have to get a patent before showing to much :? , its a simple design that use "V" shaped rims and standard tires"modified" ..it will also be possible to get the chain and tire out without having to remove the wheel ,so it will be practicle for maintnance and parts.. i know the friction and weight issues will not be practicle, but this could be fix once the concept is proven to work ..
process could be slow

yeah the 3 ways its done by all others have (a sproket on the tire rim) or (a small wheel driving the tire rim from the inside) or (friction drive on the tire)... mine will use non of those 3

That is one other advantage i found for using hubless wheels , it ruin the look , but would be easely removable by 3 screws

Still making some small wheels ... next i will have to lathe Big laminated wood rings
i have limited RPM choice on the lathe , so spinning a 20inch + , it will spin very fast , ill see what happen , i really hope it work ok

i made 12 , sounds like allot for nothing , but you will see why

i thought of making 16 at first , but 12 should be a good middle ground between weight and effectiveness ..
it will also save me a pack of bearings :p
next step is making some wooden disks! i would love to use lexan , but the price is out of this world :|

when trying to find what frame would be best to fit the wheels on , i thought of a board track racer style ,and modded my indian model
here is what happen when old get in the futur

i made the 2 rings , only need to make 1 other part and buy bearings and hardware ,
dont tell me there is nothing new here until you see that last part...

i will :)
i was thinking of getting a patent , but the process is long, costly, uncertain ,and there is no market for this kind of thing to be worth investing in a patent, but i have a little trick to back up my rights on this if something ever happend 8)
