I recently picked up this SE Rip Style, swapped out the beach bars for a bmx bar and stem combo, and gave it a test.

Worthy of klunking for sure.

So I tore it apart and had the frame and fork powdered in bright orange.

Seriously, I couldn't really see the double down tube when the frame was black. That orange is making it pop, big time!

Never fear, cutting time is here.
Seems a shame to ruin that shiny new powder coat, but I want to run the Bottema fork, plus slacken the head tube a little.
Plus that head tube is just so loooooong.
So chop chop it is

After the powder?! Fingers crossed! Maybe taping the tube before you chop will help protect the edges of the orange

Agree, Tape it up before cutting the head tube. If you have access to a band saw will burn it less than a cutoff wheel. You can minimize the damage to the paint that way. I've had some success in trimming head tubes down this way to fit a shorter steer tube. As Matti said. Good luck, I hope it works as you plan it.

I'm cutting OFF the head tube, laying back the angle and shortening it. I'm going to ruin the powder 100%.

But, I have a plan.

Cut down the head tube and re faced on the lathe.
Tacked on for a look see.
Have dropped the head angle from 70 back to 66 degrees.

Polished up the cranks before they went on. And fitted the smallest chain ring I had, being an old school 41t Proneck

Planning to run a Drum brake front, coaster rear combo, keeping things as simple as possible.

Front wheel fitted up. Used a modified seat post clamp, as a reaction point for the brake arm. I had previously built up the front wheel to use for this build, and trialled it on my Electra.

Full mock up. Using a 26"rear wheel borrowed from another bike. Front is an old school 27.5 araya rim I laced to a Sachs drum hub, and running a 27.5 x2.3 down hill tyre.
Other parts are:
Redline hollow point stem, just because I love the name lol.
Micro adjust post with my old faithful Brooks B17.
Dia Comp moto brake lever.
Bars are some cheap eBay moto bars. Have the right look I'm going for.

I'm much happier with the proportions of the frame after the head tube modification. flows much better.

not sure what accent colour to use on the front of the frame at this point? Open to ideas. I was thinking off white, but not sold on it. Rims will be a metallic charcoal finish, but don't think that would suit the frame either.

next job is the rear wheel build and coaster hub modifications.
