ok so as some of you's have seen i have a 39' schwinn packard that i'm cleaning up to sell on the bay. Now here's my question the front rim is to far oxidated to clean to a shine. what should i do for the sale. should i keep as is? should i paint white? should i buy the "schwinn" ivory paint that the guy sells on ebay for $20 a can? or should i just try and find an ivory that's close? keep in mind that the rims weren't originally painted. I just bought some red brick balloon tires for it so b4 i mount them i need to figure out the rims thing. If i was keeping i would def. paint but for re-sale not sure. thanks

if it was me i would never paint it
I would take a brass welding brush like they sell at napa auto parts like 3 bucks and wd40 and scrub it up
the rust will go away and you will be left with whats left of the chrome and that is way more disireable to a collector

I'd leave them as-is, a dedicated collector/restorer would probably rather have something that hasn't been tinkered with too much. Optionally, you could pick up a set of cheap wheels to dress it up, and include both sets of wheels when you sell.

I wouldn't touch what's left of the chrome with anything abrasive.

i would tend to agree with bunbury
find a set to dress her up and include the orignals
p.s. bunbury that is a good thought
hey also i noticed it is a skip tooth
i think i rember reading some where on here
where someone ground off every other tooth
on a standard 1/8 in chain rear sprocket to use the
skip tooth chain and front chainwheel
just a thought
make sure the sprocket has an even number of teeth though
it would be tough to grind every other tooth of say a 19 tooth sprocket :D :D :D

You're talking painting just the wheels right? I'd clean them up like Hooch said. Unless you plan on respoking the wheels, I wouldn't mess with it. The rest of the bike is aged and it will look really "off" once you do them.

As for repainting/painting...no, don't paint anything on that bike.

For epay, id just clean em up like hooch said, there worth more the way they are.

Collectors want original, when you change it, its not original anymore.

I wouldnt touch that frame and original parts (looks like a HONEY)...BUT

It looks like those are 24" wheels in that 26" frame...

Ditch them and get some 26 inchers.Just my worthless opinion.
