Looks like I need to start another build. It's been quite awhile.
I found this schwinn frame ( still not 100% sure what year and model this is) in my storage shed...

I've got a heap of old bikes found discarded in the back 40 on the Army base I work at...

I plan on doing it without buying anything I dont have to.
Should be fun!
I look forward to any ideas everyone has.

The frame sand blasted...

I found a sticker from a bike shop in Buena Park California. Cool. How it got here to Tennessee must be an interesting story.

Re: The no direction build...

I'm going to try and build this bike out of parts I already have, and parts of bikes I've found abandoned over time. I'd like to maybe do an Army theme as most of these bike were thrown away at the Army Base where I work and used to serve at. Should be interesting - any ideas out there?

How about ammo cans for saddlebags?

Sounds like a great idea! A new multicam paint scheme, everything subdued, ammo can saddle bags and I found an old encased Jeep spotlight I can use as a headlamp maybe....

A spotlight from a HMMWV I may use...

Frame sand blasted and some stuff I may use...

Handlebar choices...

The "design as you build" bikes often come out great. I remember going to the drive in movies in Buena Park. The good ol' days.

I remember when they tore down the old drive in movie theatre where I grew up in Florida. That was a sad day for sure.

Creating and cutting stencils for the camoflage paint job...

Forks after paint...

Closer shot of forks...

Front fork painted and test fit. All good so far. Went ahead and test fit everything today. Had to use a front tire for the mock up. Ran into some issues trying to fit the smaller diameter mountain bike fork into the larger tube from the old schwinn. I think I've got it figured out. More pictures will follow soon.

The frame, bars and forks and rims going into a camoflage paint scheme. Primer base, light sand base coat with patches of darker sand. SO MUCH taping and painting to go from here!

Taping off the camo patterns...

More taping , spraying, pulling and more taping and spraying... ugh...

Painted with parts tripple coated in flat clear...

Putting it all together...

A light I'm working on to refit with an led... needs some work...

Blasted and apart...

The light project all painted back to OD green. Gutted the old bulb, cord and busted switch. Changed it over to an LED from a cheep LED flashlight I got at walmart. Took it apart and am getting some help from a friend in the target shop to wire the battery pack and LED through a flip switch. Here it is all mocked up.

Next I need to start working on a rear rack with 7.62 ammo cans as saddlebags!
