btw, if you get the chance, check out Wild Zero, it's a movie starring Guitar Wolf fighting zombie aliens. The DVD comes with a drinking game which involves drinking every time someone says "rock & roll" or combs their hair, or when fire shoots out of something. I have yet to make it through.

wow.... no one mentions Negative Approach? Underdog? Bouncing Souls????

and Danzig is a moron..... I said it, anyone see him get knocked out by the north side kings after a show when he tried to be a tough guy? I do love the misfits, but everyone makes him out to be a god, but he hasn't played with the Misfits in over 20 years. IMHO the guys who've been playing as the Misfits are the MIsfits and Danzig gave it up for what? nothing. Sorry for my rant.

H20 GO!

Well. I think the MC5 were punk before the stooges...

But I gotta say Bad Religion. Or the U.K Subs. But then there's also the DayGlo Abortions... I really dig NOFX, and I was glad to see Op Ivy. Anyone heard of The GC5? or Bonecrusher? I gotts throw out some Pennywise... Ten Foot Pole... Face to face... Good to see the Beasties on there... Even when they went hiphop, they made their albums punk rock style. When I was sportin' a 'FroHawk(I have extremely curly hair...), They were the only hiphop I could stand. They were punk rock to me still...
And I may get slapped for this, but I really like early(pre-Kerplunk) Greenday. There. I said it. They were punk enough to be on lookout records back in the day...
I was listening to the Punk station on the sattelite radio in the company truck the other day, and was kinda shocked to not here anythign newer that 10 years old... But at the same time, I'm glad that mall-punk bands like sum41 and Blink182 aren't considered real punk... But it still made me feel old... And I'm only 28...

Brig--

I feel ya on that old man thing, I was at the Superbowl of Hardcore in Brooklyn last year and it was the dumbest thing ever.... The bands were terrible (except H20 and Fulll Blown Chaos) and all the kids had no idea who they were. I know it's not punk rock but none the less great HC music.

I also coach lacrosse and those kids see me rockin some of my old punk/hc shirts and they ask me if I like gym class heroes. I wanted to die.

I've seen X five times in the last 10 years, they're still AMAZING! Good call!
Gotta mention some of the older bands that the early punk bands emulated, or just out right stole from:

One of the first "garage bands" that lead up to punk, The Sonics, one of the single best songs ever recorded!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-_0V0IXEkc
And Link Wray, who pretty much invented guitar distortion. This instrumental was so intense when it came out, that radios wouldn't play it, and bars took it out of their jukeboxes because people would apparently just start brawling when they heard it. Perfection, one of the toughest riffs ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lo_YinURnY

I could pretty much listen to these 2 songs and nothing else and be perfectly happy for the rest of my life.

i'm sorry for bringin' this old thread back up, but......
i just got tix to see the ...... in may. i've been a fan for about 25 years, but never seen 'em.

you guys have brought up some great bands in this thread, but i will still have to say the d@mned is the best as far as punk goes.
