I recently finished my board track racer and it has a seven horsepower motor on it. I have a rear belt drive but I have two problems. I don't know how to grind a keyway into a shaft and my engine torque keeps going through belts. Can anyone tell me how to grind a keyway into a shaft and where can I find a belt that will have plenty of grip and not slip

You need a milling machine to cut keyways in shafts. If the pulley has a set screw just grind a flat spot on the shaft where the screw hits.

For the belt, go to NAPA and get a can of spray belt dressing. It's the stickiest nasty brown stuff so be careful where you spray it. Gary
