Straightening a sissy bar?

I have an original schwinn stingray sissy bar and the chrome is good, but there are some slight bends in the bars. any ideas about how to straighten it without messing up the chrome? It seems like a dumb question to ask :?

put a firring strip on either side of the warped area,and tighten in a vise.Or use 2x4's. DONT hit w/a hammer...

Agreed, carpet scraps in a vise works good too

Oh I know all about using a hammer. Never works. I got it pretty much straight with some 2x4s. thanks!
