Here is a 70 fastback that I restored--not totaly original, don't tell the guys on the schwinn forum--just kiddin'--as if...Well I did this the way I wanted and is not ''corect'' Many pieces are original. The frame has been repaintd-the schwinn logo and fork''darts''were hand lettered by me. Tires are re productions---schwinn classic replacements. Seat is a nice schwinn re-po. I used high-teck--cool stop-brake pads--the bike will actualy stop! now. nice high-tech silver chain and 20'' up 36'' wide ''dyna apes''.http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/JJRbigfan/Picture078.jpghttp://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/JJRbigfan/Picture074.jpghttp://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/JJRbigfan/Picture076.jpg

Very nicely done. All original might work for some people, but I consider it boring and closed minded. When i restored my Raleigh Chopper, I had the debate with myself and came to the conclusion that in fact it was MY bike and I would do what i wanted with it. That's why I painted it gold, cause I always wanted that color. If I could, I would've installed V-Brakes on it! Resale value should be the last consideration unless you only aim to resell. If you build it to enjoy it, do it for you.

personally i think there is a place for both types of bikes. i feel that if the bike is very original it should be for the most part kept that way. now if i come across a frame or in the case of the lucky 7 stollen and recovered then rat away. the schwinn speedster i just came across has me puzzled as what to do with it. tons of patina just needs a good cleaning. or to rat?
