Picked this beauty in the rough up this weekend for a pretty reasonable price, considering it was in an antique mall. It could stand to be “un-patinaed” a little bit, but I can see enough of the head badge and chain guard to make out it’s a Wards Hawthorne Jet Star. Haven’t really looked for comps online yet, but without skip-tooth I’m guessing early to mid fifties. Fenders need a little massaging where they’ve widened out, but no real dents and tank is straight as an arrow under all that paint.

Yep, early 50's Hawthorne, made by Snyder (Rollfast). The chain guard is a replacement as the Jet Star was made by Ross I think.

The serial number on the BB will date the bike.

These are super cool tankers. Had the chance at a couple without tanks but just can't imagine owning one that doesn't already have the heart in it.
