Guys I've decided to build a Klunker. I picked up a donor bike today, it had suspension forks with a 1" steer tube. The problem is the steer tube is about 3/4" to short. Can I get an extention or am I going to have to scrafice another set of forks to get the steer tube.

I have shortened the head tube on a Murray frame like that before, cut some from top and bottom, and it works BUT where the top tube and down tube join the head tube they are "crimped" on the inside of the head tube and the crimped pieces will interfere with seating your cups, to "fix" this I cut notches out of my cups.

I decided not to modify the frame. I had a some forks from my sons BMX bike I was trashing so I cut the steer tube off and used it on the 26" forks. Now if I decide to use the forks on another bike I can just bolt them on.

Now the steer tube is 6 3/4" long.
