I flipped the bars, the rust has got beneath the chrome but it hasn't rotted through the bars. The paintwork up close is in bad condition over most of the bike. Today I spent two hours scrubbing and sanding the rust on the back wheel! Luckily it's sound strengthwise. I'll be painting the rims black and hope to have the front hub brake in soon. (I'll need to work on the front rim's rust next)

I got the handlebar grips, I got some Velo grips with a fine knurled tread pattern, I tried some others but only had them on for a few days - they had a bigger tread pattern and with drop handlebars and the rider's weight concentrated downwards they dig in and are not too comfortable. I had bought two pairs of the Velo grips before so I knew they would be good http://www.flickr.com/photos/21720915@N03/2582562710/

Very sweet bike. I don,t think the platform pedals go with the way you have built the rest of the bike. Just me maybe . Still nice bike !!!! bartleydad

Thanks :) I appreciate your opinion. The original path racers had steel unpainted pedals so that was the most important thing for me, and platform pedals are just too good not to have! That's how I feel anyway :)

Here's a full-view picture of the finished bike as far as the build goes http://www.flickr.com/photos/21720915@N03/2609660273/ there are some parts of the frame with bad rust that needs sorting out and for the handlebars I got some 'Plasti-Kote Brilliant Metallic Silver' paint - when I get around to doing it!
