We just got back from spending a week in Port Aransas, Texas at our friend's beach house. It's a neat little town just north of Padre Island. We home school our kids so we get to take our trips in the off season when nobody is around. The temps were in the 80s during the day and in the 60s at night...perfect!!
Port Aransas is fairly small and you can get to just about anywhere you need to go in about 5 minutes. Golf carts are street legal there so we rented one and drove everywhere in it all week. The beaches are very clean and the water is nice and fairly clear. As with most beach towns, there are lots of cruiser bikes around and there's a very laid back atmosphere. Everyone we met was very nice and it was fun to be there when it was mostly locals around.
Here's a sample of the trip via photos I took last week...
Our house for the week.
Our ride for the week...
THE grocery store in town...became very familiar with this place.
Neat bike shop that specializes in fat tire beach bikes. They rent and sell cruisers and I had a great time talking with the owner. He's friends with the owner of 3G Bikes and he let me ride a few of the bikes around...the 3G was nice!
Neat little trailer for the beach...
University of Texas Marine Science Institute...
You can take a 10 minute ferry ride to a 26 mile long uninhabited island called St. Jo Island that has awesome fishing and shelling...
Some random shots from the trip...
On the way back we stopped in Lockhart, Texas and at at the Kreuz Market....serious BBQ...
