I found this origin 8 aluminum bike at a bike shop the other day...i have never seen one before and i could never tell you where to find them, since theyre not on websites, and i cant find them online.
MTBR has a review, but its not a complete bike...just the frame.

But, Anywho...A bike shop around me has one avaiable for about $400(i think) its a single speed, and an aluminum frame. Avid brakes and other minor good things.

I dont know if i would trust an aluminum bike from a company i have never heard of

I think the new 2010 models will have a 4130 steel frame, but these seem like a good bike at a cheap price. My LBS bought a few from J&B on closeout and was selling them for closer to $300. I almost bought one last year... but I wanted steel. Right now I am leaning towards a Dawes Deadeye.

You may want to checkout http://bikesdirect.com/ if you are looking for a cheap bike with nice upgrades.

I am in the same boat... I like the price of the ridge single speeds, but know if I am going to ride the bike often it will need at least a 1x9, suspension fork and discs. I am almost thinking of buying both a Cliff Pro and a Deadeye combine to make a nice steel bike and sell the SS to offset the cost... For now I am just hoping something will show up on CL. Keep us posted with a "Ride Report " when you decide. :)
