Are you running a water trap right at the gun? those seem to help.
Your compressor was probably running quite a bit, heating up the compressed air, then it condensed in the hose because it was laying on the cold floor.
Winter time is the worst for getting water in the air lines. Sometimes it seems like no matter what you do to prevent it, it still happens.
