headset help...top race wont untighten.

just put my springer on and tightened everything up..put on my stem with apes and i tried turning but it was real hard. now i cant get the top race nut off??? its super stuck...dont know if it was wrong bearings or what.....anyone experience this before? i couldnt get it to unscrew....i just threw some wd40 and now im off to bed.....i got to get up early which i know wont happen cuz its gonna be bothering me all nite....thanks for the help fellas.

If it's one of those cheap Pyramid springers, the steer tube is pretty thin. If you over tighten the stem it will distort it. :x
