More rain last night creek running again. Staying out of basement so far. Humidity and temperature makes it feel like 95 degrees so no painting going on. Cleaned the truss rod parts and original stem this morning. I need a new bolt for tightening handlebars, it is a weird thread size (3/8"-21T or 20T??). The wedge and stem bolt are OK.

This is another Frankenstein option, seat post, shim and threadless stem.

I masked off the tank for the key lime, went ahead and gambled with temperature and humidity and shot the color. It seemed to dry fairly quickly, peeled the tapes and hung in garage to cure where the humidity is lower.

Thinking I should have reversed the dark green and key lime...

Raining again...sketching out off white frame accents. Would like to do copper stripping at color transitions.

This is really an intricate paint scheme you have going Ed. I like the panels on the tank bright green. It will stand out in a crowd, and a bold statement of your spray can artistry!

Doing some accent dart prep work, tedious stuff.

I got this Elgin frame all masked off, had good temperature and humidity for a change, shot some color. Disappointed in outcome in the end. I had used some old R-O Navaho White on the fender and got some spatter paint in lieu of mist. I bought a new can hoping to avoid this a second time. Same thing again, stripping worked fine but the finish is uneven and a run...
I guess I have three options: sand it smooth and try again, scuff sand and distress to make it look old, used and worn or leave it as is. Looks OK from a distance but not close up, maybe I could add a Made in China sticker...probably not I've seen good looking stuff from there. [emoji19]

Hope you work through the paint issues. It's exciting seeing the colors getting laid down on this beauty.

I ran across this photo today with paint similar to what I was going for.

I like how the front fender appears to have a different color on the inside.
I'm guessing the green inside fender matches the green under all the dirt and grime on the exposed surfaces.

That's what I'm thinking, the inside of the fender is out of the sun as well. Sure make it look cool tho.

Ed, I figured you were either taking it easy this weekend (like I was!) or busy with some intricate paint work. Of course, if it was up to me, I would scuff sand it and make it look old....but then you would have to with all your other completed parts too. And you are so good at the fine detail and 'make it look like new' builds. Anyway, unless it's going into your local custom bike museum, will the paint miffs be noticed in the everyday world? And most importantly; can you live with it? Looks like you got the style spot on! I'm curious, what is the thin tape you put down closest to the edge of your work? I recognize the 3M blue paint tape....

Thanks for the comments. I'm still undecided on frame direction. If it ever stops raining I'm going to put the parts back together to access actual color palette appearance together. Might end up redoing entire frame and fork.
Since I'm doing this build shade-tree/backyard I'd like things to be dry. We had sun yesterday, raining again this am.
The thin masking tape is "Tamiya Masking Tape 6mm" I found it at our Hobby Lobby store.

For the fender stripes I used " The STRIPER Paint Pinstriping Stencil Tape". The company has a lot of different width and configurations.
