My friend has convinced me to build my first chopper. I really dig the Ruff frames, but am also lookng for other frame companies or builders. What could you recommend? Also wondering about 3 speed hubs and shifters, as well as where to look for seats and parts. I am a newbie so any help is appreciated. I am adding two pics of what I am shooting for.

Re: First Ever Build

First of all: welcome to the club of bicycle-nutters.
Second: can't see no pics,so there's gone something wrong with that.
Third: Ruffcycles frames are cool frames for a reasonable price.
When you're a tall guy, a factory frame can prove to be a little small/short, so you might be forced to extend a standard frame or build one yourself.
I don't know where you're from (USA,Europe,Australia?), but that could influence the availability of certain parts.
Normally a 3-speed coasterhub is good enough for most bikes, unless you want something with disc-brakes or a hub with more gears.
And last, but not least: the cash-flow is a major factor in this case (how much money can you spend?)

Just read yourself to death on this forum and it will all become clear before your very eyes.

Good luck and let us know, if you start a project.

Be cool. 8)

Re: First Ever Build

Im posting from my phone, so it may have screwed up.

Im 6'1" and I live in Florida. I wanna build something similar to a Dyno Roadster...ape hangers and stretch spinger front end. Just cant find frames other than Ruff

Re: First Ever Build

several people on Ebay sell frames similar to the Dyno Roadster. You might try there. 8)

Re: First Ever Build

The frame is now being built. I am using this frame

We are putting more rake in the front, a sharper bottom chin on the front and thicker tubing in the front half.

My dilemma is where to buy parts from. If anyone has some sites or distributors to use, I would be thankful for the help

Re: First Ever Build

Looks like a cool build in the works. In the For Sale forum there is a thread that has several pages of places to find the parts you need, or you can just click HERE. I fixed a couple of your pics. This may help http://ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1832

Cayo Hueso Chopper: My First Build

So I am super stoked right now to get the notification from Devon that the frame has been shipped. As this is my first build, I cant wait till it gets here in the Southernmost City from Sacramento. This is going to be an awesome process. It took a while for myself and Devon to get to where we were happy with the frame. Now its on its way. Devon seems to be just as stoked in his build as I am in his design. Makes me feel awesome to know that I had a lot of input and learned a lot in this project so far.

Some specs:
55" from hub to hub
3" from the ground
Gonna be running 24" Quick Bricks in the front, and 26" Thick Bricks in the back
30" Triple Tree 1 1/8" Threadless Fork
Working on the handlebars. Probably apehangers
Vintage Can LED light mounted on front hub
3 piece crankset
Custom Powder Coating is being done by a local company
More to come as it gets built!

Now for the timeline and look at the project so far!

Mocked Up Before Being Shipped to Cayo Hueso (Key West)

So what is everyone's thoughts so far? Any ideas for parts or accessories for it? I think this thing is going to look mean when it gets assembled and powdercoated!!

Just drop the bike off at the powdercoater. We are going with this texture and color on the frame with some red powder pinstriping accents on the front by the headpost. Thoughts?

Yeah. We looked over paint and the guys said they painted a motorcycle frame this way. Gonna throw some red up front. Its gonna look mean!
