My husband broke his Huffy mountain bike brake lever (don't ask 😆) and wants a clamp brake lever to replace it so we don't have to remove the grips and fiddle with the gears. However there are so many out there. Anyone got any recommendations?

With a broken brake handle, a new one won't match the other one. It's a complete rebuild that is needed.

Be sure to get pics of the teardown so it'll all go back together. Every last part must be disassembled and laid out for cleaning or replacement.

It'll need wheels and new tires to look good, and they probably were getting worn out anyway if the brake lever broke. Might as well get a good single speed freewheel or coaster and not worry about gears anymore. Araya rims for sure. A single speed chain wheel crankset will work great also, probably a 40 tooth chain wheel with a 16 tooth cog will give a good riding gear. All the gear stuff can be stripped off.

Add an alloy set of handlebars and a Brooks saddle and there will be one cool Huffy!

Just changing one thing at a time will add up to a lot more time wrenching on the bike. Do it all at once and have a bike that will ride for years with no problem.

Remember also that you need to match the brake type to the levers. Cantilever and side pull have a different pull ratio than v brakes. The wrong type will mess with your braking force
