Wow, my town is stuffed! Giant earthquake two days ago has made a mess of Christchurch, 75 confirmed dead so far but hundreds still missing. Stupid thing is this was only an aftershock! We had what we thought was the big one on September 4th last year which measured 7.1 on the richter scale. That one happened about four oclock in the morning when the streets were empty and we got away without a single casualty! Guess we got complacent. Tuesday's happened at ten to one, lunchtime on a weekday. Was only a 6.3 but shallow at only 5km deep and centred close at the port (Lyttleton).
Big aftershocks going on constantly still, really hampering rescue efforts in the CBD. What a freakin mess. It's gonna be years before we recover from this one...
