some guy was selling bikes for 5 dollars a pop from some old barn he was going to sell. i picked up what was left from everyone else's rummaging. ended up with a schwinn racer 3-speed, schwinn continental, and for 25, an old elgin straightbar skiptooth

pics to follow, along with years and whatnot

ya i kinda realized the name was right there afterwards, and fun stuff on the elgin. im thinking of buying some flat clearcoat to keep it from rusting anymore and just keeping it looking the way it is.

That Racer is sweet alright.

Looks like it just needs the steel wool treatment and it will be really clean.

steel wool and some new tubes. i just picked up some wood bleach (oxalic acid) and im going to try that as opposed to the naval jelly route that i've been doing

Yeah...an OA bath on this bike's chrome parts would be excellent.

Don't forget to take before and after pics.

It's a very effective penetrating solvent/lubricant, almost every auto parts store around here has it, also Lowe's and Home Depot. Great for taking rust off chrome and bare metal mechanical parts, loosening rusted nuts, bolts, etc..
