Here's a build I'm working on. I got this bike for $30, and the guy threw in a mid 60's Western flyer for $10. I stripped this old AMF down, media blasted it and started redoing it.

Another shot of it before the strip down.

Here she is after I media blasted it and got it ready to powder coat. There was a little bit of pitting on the frame. I guess this bike sat outside for quite some time.

I decided to play around with the powder so I did a three stage job on this one. First I coated it bright yellow, then I put a layer of candy lime green on top, then a clear metalflake sparkle. She really shines in the sun, I'm glad my idea turned out good this time. Some of my other "master mixes" weren't so masterful!

The tank was pretty much shot. Too much exposure to the elements, and the batteries that exploded in there didn't help matters. So I decided to make one out of wood. Here is a template I made from cardboard.

I have a friend that had some exotic wood strips laying around so I asked if I could have a few of them for my build. I glued them together and cut out the shape for the tank. Had a few pieces left over so I'm using them for an updated rack.

Here's the piece still needing to be tweaked a bit more so it'll fit better.

Here's what I have so far.
I may put some different tires on her later on, but these will work for now as I ride the kinks out. I'll stay with heavier tires even though I can't use the fenders but I like the thicker tires. I was able to use the original handgrips though my wife is not diggin the white. I used a newer rear rack with the wood on top and it's just oiled down with Danish oil. It gives the wood a nice sheen but not overly shiney.

I'm going to add some metal loops to the side of the rack so I can haul two bottles of red grape juice later on.

I'm happy so far with what I have done. The entire bike is powder coated down to the new allen head bolts, that's just how I roll. 8) The handle bars were coated with just the candy lime and the clear sparkle coat. Not an awesome feat of engineering like some of the heavyweight builders that grace this site, but It makes me feel good to build something that looked like it had one foot in the grave. I have to got out of town for a few weeks. Training for my job so once I get back I'll work a little more on it. Hope ya'll like what I have so far. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah she's sparkly, I like the way the yellow comes through depending on the light. More light, more yellow! Thanks guys! Hope to have some more on here after my trip.

Man that green reminds me of my GT Interceptor I had as a kid. Hey Roly, I started a build thread for the 66 Columbia...let me know what you think!
