Good question. The tire size is 26 x 2.125 and Spitfires came with S2 rims.

Other than the chainguard graphics, is a Spitfire any different from the other 70's Schwinn cantilever frames like a Heavy Duty frame, etc., is?

Not certain. However, in addition to the guard graphics, the top tube graphics are block letters on the Spitfire vs script letters.

Usually all the frames I see from the 70s
Have the rear bracket for the canti. Brakes instead of the the fender brace , that's why I asked if it was a balloon tire frame .

Gotcha. The rear brake bridge did not appear on the Cruiser / Cruiser 5 ( both replacements for the Spitfire / Spitfire 5) until 1980.

Cool deal! I still have this 78 Spitfire 5. The seller of this bike told me about this forum called Rat Rod Bikes years ago and I still haven't done anything with this bike yet.

Give you odds that, the rear is only black b/c he's slid on the org whitewall so many times it was trashed.
