This is a bit of a Frankenbike. The fork isn’t original, and the paint on it is silver. (What’s that hole in the front for?). The front wheel and tire are Schwinn. Tire is dry rotted. It’s got a Cheater Slick, like it should, over a coaster brake wheel, but it also has remnants of a rear caliper brake still attached. And on the frame you can see where the 3-speed housing clamp was over the rear dropout, and a ghost impression of where the stick shifter attached to the right top bar. So at some point the 3-speed system was removed and a coaster wheel was added. But that was done after the paint was roached. You can see the original color under the decals. It was Flamboyant Orange. So, 3-speed Flamboyant Orange Foremost Swinger makes this a 1968. FYI: The bike was built by Murray, and under that badge would have been called an Eliminator.
After all that research and clue deciphering, it’s funny to note that this isn’t going to be a restoration. This will be a MBBO#11 entry that I will modify in unknown ways. More to come in September.
