45 or 55 seem pretty reasonable to me. According to my uncle brass welds werent used much past the 50s. Now if I could only figure out the model of the bike. I'd love to see what it used to look like

    Huffy, not sure of year.

Yeah, it would be either 45 or 55. The odd thing is that it has a "Huffy" front badge that is vertical. I guess it could've been added later but I doubt it. Not sure if that would change anything.

    26 in. tire dilemma

What do I need to know about buying hoops? Will knowing 26" x 1.25" suffice?

Thank for the pictures, Looks awesome. Mine doesn't have a truss rod bracket, but I think I could custom fab one...it looks fairly simple Thanks again and great looking bike.

    26 in. tire dilemma

So I'm working on a bike where the rims are rusted beyond saving. The brake hub is fine, an old suntour from when they were made in Japan, and the front is a schwinn hub made in france. Both are in good condition but the spokes and rims aren't. Obviously I have two options: 1. replace the...

What does the top of that truss rod look like? Did you just aluminum weld it directly to the main bolt of the headset or did you fabriacte some kind of adapter?

50-60's Era Huffy Headset Bearings replacement

Wow, I'll say. Had to read your post twice. That being said I'm super excited I finally cracked this mystery. none of my LBS have this, I've called around this morning. I did find it online so I guess this is a 10 buck gamble...oh well.

Believe it or not your story has played out for even the bearing cages+bearings. Everything they try is just a little too small!

Hey thanks for the reply. Not sure what you you mean by LBS Press....the 1 1/8 headset bearings I've found are fairly inexpensive, so I think I can afford the risk on at least one set. If it happens to be the odd one, maybe you can explain to me what I need to do to acquire that part?

    Little black ridding hood. (finished)

Really love what you did with the fork, and the minimalist chainguard is rad too. Did you custom fab either of those pieces?

Re: Newb Build, Old (not so crappy) Huffy Could you explain what the purpose of the axle adjuster screws are? Was it to make up for inconsistencies in the axle of the wheel or what?

Re: Newb Build, Old (not so crappy) Huffy Got around to cleaning it today with degreaser and a plastic brush. Next stop is rust removal (where possible). I think I need to get to Home Depot and get some metal brush attachments for my cordless drill if I'm going to get ride of the rust in any...
