THE FRITZ FIFTY - LIMITED EDITION STING-RAY

I haven't been on in a while, but I just picked up my #196 Fritz. It came in about a month ago, but I didn't have time to get it until today. The nearest shop that could get one for me was an hour away. And if you were wondering, it is fully assembled and I will be riding the tires off it come...

    Another Iowa Guy

I have a bike like that buried somewhere! It might not be identical, but it's really similar. Mine's a Western Flyer and it's blue. I got it at Sharpless for a dollar in the 90s for a lowrider project that never happened. I love the handlebar/fork combo!

    Another Iowa Guy

Thanks, it's mutual! I got the Schwinn hybrid all tuned up and shifting great for my step-daughter. That Scrambler was rough though! The handlebars are tweaked really bad and the top tube pad was hiding an amateur weld that circled the whole way around the tube. Someone was rough on bikes to...

    AMERICAN PICKERS

If anyone is interested, there are a bunch of photos from the rally posted here: http://scoot.net/gallery/2010/06/knuckl ... index.html It's mostly scooters, but some American Pickers stuff is scattered throughout. There's even a few of Danielle's burlesque group performing. So if you're one...

It is true that not much is made in America anymore. I was meaning buy old American. For the price of a $100-$200 junk China bike you should be able to get a vintage American made bike which has already survived decades and will last decades more. It might need some re-greasing or minor work...

    AMERICAN PICKERS

I just got back from our scooter rally in LeClaire. Mike was actually around much of the time despite his recent fame. It's hard to get a word in edgewise anymore because now everywhere he goes people are mobbing him and asking for photos or autographs. My hope was to get a photo of him wearing...

I'd never heard of this brand before I saw this post, so I just checked them out. I'm into old scooters and these bikes remind me of the Chinese scooters that have been flooding the US market for a few years. They look a lot like $5000 Italian scooters, but are 1/4 the price and quality. Chinese...

    AMERICAN PICKERS

That is his only job. Last I heard they don't make a ton off filming the show itself, at least not the first season. But Mike has had some amazing finds over the years that I have heard stories about. Stuff where one transaction pretty much makes his year. Think picked for a few hundred and sold...

    LETS SEE HAWTHORNE BICYCLES !!!!!!!!

I have my main ride, a 24" 1960 Hawthorne twin bar with SA 3-speed coaster brake. Clear coat bare metal. Nothing on the frame is original anymore. And my next project. 1939-40 hunk of barn rust. One of the few years that they had the curved fender braces. Still don't know what I'm doing with...

    AMERICAN PICKERS

I don't have cable, but I did see Pawn Stars once at a hotel. It felt really staged to me. I'm pretty sure ALL reality shows are staged more than we think, but I felt like that show was especially obvious. The problem is once you start staging a reality show and having the characters act it out...

    AMERICAN PICKERS

I just saw that you guys were talking about the show, sorry I'm a little behind the curve! I live in Iowa and know Mike a little bit through my scooter club. That dude loves and knows his bikes. Last time I was at his place he had a few sets of wooden rims laying around and two 20's era bikes...

    My Girlfriend's Murray

The tires fit, but there is hardly any clearance with the fenders. I had to remove the rear reflector because the bolt holding it on would scrape the tires. I do not know the year. I honestly haven't done a lot of research on the bike. We haven't tried the light yet either. She never rides in...

    My Girlfriend's Murray

Haha, good eye! The factory seat was a torture device. We kept it with the other original parts but put on new bike take-off seat for the sake of comfort.

    My Girlfriend's Murray

I know this bike isn't heavily customized or anything, I just think it's a cool bike and thought I'd share it. It's a basically stock, super-clean Murray Missile except we swapped the 1.75 tires for some 2.125 whitewalls. She rides it a couple miles to work all the time.
