The xtracycle is an awesome cargo carrying concept, but the xtrahighprice is not.

It seems that taking a tandem bike, and removing the rear seat/handles/crank would provide the same geometry, and enough frame area to bolt on assorted brackets/platforms/baskets etc. Thoughts?

True, I started on a long bike, stretched 14 inches and quit on it. For some reason another bike guy at a local LBS made me mad.

But back to the tandem frame, I picked one up at a yard sale for $20, just the frame set, and I was thinking about the same thing.
Build it up but with one crank and saddle, OR

Walmart has on line a tandem for half of the xtra cycle price.

Either way would be cool and not the sticker price of the xtra thing.
