They do sell crazy fine grades of scotch bright... Some maybe softer than tissue, I use copper on chrome not steel wool, copper is softer is my line of thought.....
Plus around my area every corner store sells it in little pieces for some reason.:wondering:
 
Yup chrome I have no problem with but paint -- I need help with the paint.
 
I was experimenting with parts cleaning methods, and i decided to try electric parts cleaner. It gave it a nice shine, and just made it brighter in my opinion. Its a good last step after water or wd40. Its not cheap, thats why i dont do it often. But different companies use different components. You should be able to find one that works. I usually get a spray on one that just wipes off
 
I have seen people use automatic transmission fluid to fill in scratches and bring back the shine. Then wipe it all off and wax. On my Harley I would use Lemon pledge to wax and wipe off.
