reminds me of when i got home one day my mom was rubbing ketchup all over some tea set she had...shined it up really nicely, i dont know what kind of metal it was though

about the same as using rubbing compound...theyve both got really fine grit and are abrasive(wouldve never thought of trying toothpaste myself but hey........ :mrgreen: )

Wrap sandpaper around a pencil, small paintbrush etc. then it's easy to get between the spokes and will massively increase the pressure you can apply.

I was working on a wheel today and used an old wheel skewer, because it's thin you can get nearer the base of the spokes.

That was funny! How did I miss that before?!

I saw a car show and they said when cleaning old windshields that couldn't be cleaned with regular Windex, to try a product called Bar Keepers Friend. It was abrasive enough to clean the harden gunk on the glass but soft enough not to scratch it. I bet it'd do well on chrome too. Heck, it's probably what they put into the cheap toothpaste.
