I had an interview on radio about bike theft and this meant leaving the bike unattended downtown in a rack for a long time. Didn't have $200 to spend on a super lock so I made one from 3 feet of grade 70, 5/16 inch, 4700lbs test chain and a good padlock from the hardware store. It took 5 minutes for the guy to cut the chain with a hydraulic tool. Total cost: $39 plus tax. The only drawback is that it weighs 5 pounds!

H.A. look...

Wearing that bigass chain draped over one shoulder ammo belt style would give you some street cred'

I keep my schwinns locked up in my garage with the same type of chain. I use 3/8" transport chain. I've got a couple pieces that I've pulled through old 26" inner tubes to keep the chain from chipping paint. I use American locks also.
