I am having the man's Hawthorne rebuilt.
The pedals were welded to the cranks. A springer front end from the Sears Spaceliner is added to the front along with the crank. Small tank is off a Rollfast. The chrome chain guard is from the 24 inch Hawthorne, while the primer one is off the 1920's woman's Columbia. I think I want the handlebars turned upside down with the light flipped also.
Did they make copper handlebars or is that just copper plating between the steel and the chrome?

Actually I think It was before chrome. They plated with copper and then nickle. That is why old chrome has that cool yellow glow instead of the newer stuff with the blueish tinge. a bit of history...Chrome was invented to use on shafts for the bearing surfaces. It is so hard it would not wear down like even a hardened surface.
