I bought this Elgin with plans to build a rat out of it, and after getting a bunch of parts together, I have lost interest in it.
Sorry about the arrangement of the photos, and some aren't the best quality.
Anyway, with that in mind, it is for sale. Circa 1939 - 1941 mens Elgin curvy frame, Murray built.
It comes with a replacement crank, another headbadge, a 1/2" pitch Murray chain wheel, a set of Lobdel clinchers, the hubs need to be rebuilt. However it does include a NOS New Departure axle for the front hub. New Departure model D in the rear, with a 20t 1/2" pitch cog, the front hub I believe is a model W. The extra crank is off of a late 40's early 50's Murray, the chain wheel is an early 60's. Also a set of Goodyear All Weather G3 tires, in decent condition for their age, when removed off of another wheel set they still were in good shape. Also included is a working J.C. Higgins 26" speedometer, well it still spins and was working when removed from another bike a couple years ago. No saddle, stem, pedals, seat post binder bolt, or handlebar. I can include a 1" pitch cog for the rear wheel if you want, I think I have a 9t in my bucket of ND parts.
The frame is solid, yet crusty. There are a couple of rust divots, no through and through penetration. The right rear seat stay, where the chain guard attaches, was over tightened at one time, however the stay is still solid. The chain guard has been bent and straightened at some time, it isn't straight, but should be able to be manipulated.
It will never be a good candidate for a restoration, however for a rat or a resto mod, here you go. Basically what you see is what you get, although I didn't take a photo of the front wheel. If you don't see it, (aside from the front wheel) it won't be in the box when it arrives at your location.
P.M me with any questions.
285.00 shipped, from Sanger TX, to the continental United States only (elsewhere it will be more). regular paypal (no f&f) or money order
