I just got this JC Higgins today. Can someone identify the year from the serial number? The numbers are M.O.T.S.-V, MOD-502, 458, and 112509. Thank you in advance!

I keep finding more on the Murray bike serial numbers all the time. Murray made your bike for Sears, JC Higgins was their brand name, after 62 just was Sears as a brand. Before WW2 was named Elgin. My latest update to the list shows MOT as 1958 or 1961.

Okay thanks!

This other guy says '54. The JC's went to the middleweight look by '58 so I'm thinking earlier.

M.O.T.S.-V
Murray
Ohio
Tennessee
Sears
1956-V.
Thanks! Someone else said '56 as well. Someone else thought '58-'61, but it's definately not '60's. From what I understand through some research, the balloon bikes were going out by about '54-'56 as the new, lighter middleweight bikes were replacing them. And my bike definately looks '50's, I don't think it looks '60's at all. Just my opinion, I'm not an expert.
