anyone know what this hub is?

bought a couple of old schwinns this weekend. this hub is on a s-7 rim. I could be wrong but it looks older than the rim.
hard to tell from the pics but its got a lot of rust and pitting. no outward markings on it that I could see. the arm is a bendix 70.
the bike it was on was a Schwinn American. it rides real nice, kinda like its geared for easy riding. I tried to kick it back to see if it was a 2-speed.. wouldn't shift. any feedback would help.

Looks like a geared Bendix. Is the axle solid at both ends, or is one end hollow?

you guys nailed it! the hole was so crammed with dirt I didn't even notice.
im keeping it just the way it is..easier for this old man to pedal.

The bellcranks aren't impossible to get, but that last time I had one of those I had to make the pushrod from a wire rimmed sunglasses temple piece.
