I got this bike for $30 bucks. Before I go tearing it down to sandblast and powdercoat,I'd like some advice. Don't know what year it is, cant find a serial on it anywhere. Maybe after sandblasting it'll turn up. I've seen folks on e-bay selling similar bikes for a couple hundred, so I wasn't sure if I'd be doing more damage than good by fixing it up a bit. All I know is that it's an AMF Roadmaster, and the guy I bought it from said it belonged to his grandfather. besides whatever went on the front fender for decoration, she's complete with all the parts there, and it's mostly light surface rust on it. The bike was kept in an old tobacco barn out of the weather mostly. Any help would be greatly appretiated!

Roly...

I've looked and researched, and ratina is right, there isn't a way to tell the year by the serial number on AMFs. That sprocket is the earliest style they used, right before the star sprocket in the early 60's. So, it could be late 50's. If that tank has a horn, maybe the old batteries are still in there and might have a date on them. Or maybe there's a roll of cash stashed in there.

I also noticed that decal on the seat tube, it looks different than the other decals I've seen. Can you post a closeup of it?

Thanks for responding Ratina, and Wildcat! I have it over my buddy's house to keep the peace with my wife! Got a dozen here and she's flippin out! I'll take a few more shots of it and post them soon. I can pass by there this afternoon on my way to get another bike. LOL Thanks for the help!

This is the head tube badge. Not as clear as I was hoping for, had the sun blaring on the screen.

Looks like two things were on this fender. Don't know what though

The other hole is where the fender should bolt to under the fork, the fender has been moved forward. That decal is different than a lot I have seen on the early 60's bikes, so I think it's a late 50's model.

I've got the same bike with the same sprocket and I remember seeing an ad that said " New for 1958."
