I grew up 5 miles from Upper South Amana and never really gave them much thought. when I got married the first time we rented the Homestead Hall for the reception not knowing it was also the "funeral home" and there was actually a deceased person in the next room.... kinda of a mood killer when we found out lol. its nasically just a tourist thing anymore the original communal living is long passed. and Amana refrigeration factory is now owned my Maytag and a skeleton of what it once was
