Been a while since I brought anything new home. Here is what I came up with lately.
My brother-in-law's cousin works at a local scrap yard back in my hometown, a while back he says since he started working there he must have cut up thousands of bikes to be destroyed. I told him I want to come take a look at what they have there. Well, it still hasn't happened, because he can't seem to get his boss to be around on the weekend to let me in while they are closed. But in the meantime, he and my brother-in-law brought me up to a guy they know who brings stuff into the scrapper all the time, who has a load of bikes he pulled out of a dump. They let me dig through the pile to look for something good.
The first view of the pile:
I almost took this scooter:
this scooter was cooler, but more decrepit:
still not finding anything exciting:
some girl's 20", decided I didn't want the frame, but saved the stem+bars, seat+sissy, and crank+skiptooth sprocket:
a girl's 20" rollfast, also pretty beat up, not much worth saving, but I grabbed those bars.
My brother-in-law tests out one of the little bikes in the pile:
Score! a Raleigh frame and 3-speed Sturmey Archer wheel
The pile, re-piled:
Note the peugeot on top... was going to take it until I saw that it had been hit by a dumptruck and the wheelstays were fubar.
So this is all I wanted from the pile:
Just wish I could find more of that Raleigh.
the Raleigh crank is for the Raleigh frame. Not sure what to do with the little skiptooth.
But anyway, that was the haul, better than nothing, I guess.
Here is what I am really excited about, my first good local craigslist find in months:
FlightLiner, pre-cursor to the SpaceLiner... all that's missing is the tank. Anyone got one?
Bars are bent, but I have replacements.
Kickback hub!
So this one is going to need to be re-greased but otherwise pretty much good to go. Going to look for a tank though... Anyone?
